BlizzCon is less than a week away, and during the convention there will be six different esport tournaments taking place. That’s lot of teams and matches to keep up with, and a lot of fans, both attending and watching at home, will have some trouble doing that. Blizzard recognizes this and has taken it upon themselves to ensure that fans can follow along with whichever tournament is taking place. They have just launched their brand new application, the Blizzard Esports App, which is available to download on Android and iOS today.
The extremely handy app provides news, schedules for each tournament, scores from matches, and links for live viewing which include alerts for when matches are about to begin. The application itself is easy to use, and provides clear and concise information on how to access its features, such as activating the push notifications for whichever Blizzard esport tournament goes live. This is an invaluable asset as all Blizzard esport competitions will be present at BlizzCon 2018, including the Heroes Global Championship (HGC), the Overwatch World Cup, and the World of Warcraft Arena World Championship. Even if you’re only moderately interested in Blizzards esports, the app is available to any and all fans alike. It’s also important to note that the Overwatch League is not included at this time, but the World Cup that takes place at BlizzCon will be available.
This might be an indication as to where the game industry heads when it comes to esports support. Blizzard isn’t the only company that hosts tournaments, as Valve has its giant annual Dota 2 tournament, The International, where the best teams convene and duke it out for a huge prize pool of money, and would more than likely offer a similar app for those who are interested in the tournament. Blizzard is welcoming all feedback for the newly released app, as the company is hoping to make this the go-to necessity for all esports fans. It’s too early to tell how it will fare on the market, but there is no doubt that this will expand the horizon of how fans and players view their preferred esport tournaments.
