Blizzard Releases Overwatch Open Beta Infographic

A week ago, Blizzard announced that the Overwatch open beta drew a whopping 9.7 million players on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. This record-breaking statistic is impressive by itself, but now comes the fun part – the detailed breakdown from Blizzard on everything that went down.

Over 7 days, players from over 190 countries logged 4.9 billion minutes – 81 million hours, or 9,380 years of gameplay – across 37, 623,607 matches. “Assault” matches lasted for an average of 6 minutes and “Escort” games an average of 7 minutes, while “Control” games averaged 9 minutes, and “Hybrid” lasted 7.

Players earned 87,103,442 loot boxes. 341 million heroes were commended, while 72 million enemies were commended. The most played characters for each player type were announced as well – in my own experience, it seemed like the online fan favorites didn’t quite line up with the actual worldwide gameplay.

9,002,594 payloads were successfully delivered over an in-game distance of 1.9 million kilometers, while players dealt 1,369,749,063,663 points of damage and 168,015,096,011 healing points over the entire week. 326 million bastion units were destroyed, and High Noon rolled around 5.7 million times a day. Dragon Units – as seen in the recent animated short – were deployed by Genji players 50,367,559 times, and by Hanzo players 62,528,516 times.

That’s a lot of massive numbers! Statistical beta breakdowns are always fun to check out – if anything, its fascinating to compare your own gameplay choices to those of players worldwide. Another favorite are the key choice breakdowns seen at the end of Telltale’s games, regarding important decisions in the games’ storylines.

Overwatch will be available May 24th on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
