If you’re a Nintendo Switch owner you may have been fairly disappointed when it was announced that Blizzard would not be planning to bring Overwatch to the Nintendo Switch. But after some consideration, and in an interview with Express Online, Jeff Kaplan said that while unlikely, it hasn’t been entirely ruled out yet.
As stated above, Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan had a sit down and answered a few questions pertaining to the fate of the game making its way to the brand new Nintendo Switch. The original reason for the initial “no” was due to the fact that in order to get Overwatch to be playable on the Switch, the game would need to be at the very minimum specs possible. This can cause issues when playing and lead to poor customer satisfaction despite the games huge success on the other platforms.
“I think the problem is, we’ve really targeted our min spec in a way that we would have to revisit performance and how to get on that platform”.
Later on in the sit down Jeff raised a fairly good point. Right now they are operating on three platforms and doing a pretty good job at keeping things running smooth. He said that with all the effort being put into the PC, Xbox One, and PS4, it may not be in their deck of cards to add in another platform on top of all their list of to do’s.
But don’t let the above statements let you lose hope. Around the end of the interview, Jeff went ahead and kept a small light of hope when he said that, “just because we’re not on a platform right now, it doesn’t mean we won’t reconsider it in the future, so we stay aware of all these things”. So cross your fingers if your a Switch owner and hope Overwatch developers have the time and ability to bring it to another console.
