Previously reported, Blizzard announced its next expansion, Legion. Months later, during the holiday rush and hype tornado that is BlizzCon, the developers further revealed a new class (Demon Hunters) and the expansion’s map (the Broken Isles).
While fans were overall excited for the release of previous, time-traveling expansion, Warlords of Draenor, they quickly turned apathetic after its release. With each shard of news surrounding Legion seems to reignite WOW fan’s hope that the next expansion might bring back that old feeling (also seen by the hint that fan favorite character, Sylvanas, will be given a bigger role by developers).
Bringing back 2007’s Burning Crusade main bloodelf baddie, Illidan Stormrage, and rumors surrounding his role in the game have been fierce–some speculating that perhaps this supreme demon lord might be a force for good rather than evil.
Blizzard meanwhile hints are events to come, stating via their website:
In this expansion chronicling the events following Warlords of Draenor, all hellfire breaks loose when the warlock Gul’dan, betrayer of the orcs and twisted servant of the Burning Legion, unleashes a demonic invasion force upon Azeroth unlike any the Horde and the Alliance have ever faced. To save their world from annihilation, heroes must unlock the mysteries of the mythic Broken Isles, master powerful Artifact weapons, and strike a forbidden pact with the Demon Hunters of the Illidari — vengeful disciples of the dreaded Illidan Stormrage.
Well, fans can finally add an official date to their calendar, as this August 30th is the official Legion launch date.
The Standard Edition will be on sale for $50 USD, while a Digital Deluxe edition will sell for $70. For the most hardened and hardcore of WOW subscribers, there will be a special collector’s edition for $90.
Blizzard is having a busy year–what with the Warcraft movie, the upcoming of Starcraft II Nova Covert Ops, and the impending launch of (and highly, highly anticipated) team-based, MMO shooter, Overwatch. World of Warcraft has recently faced bit of its own fame in the press recently, albeit slightly critical from fans, as Blizzard forced a cease and desist on popular, French fan-made Vanilla server.
Whether or not you’ve been subcribed all along, or if you took a break, or even if you were forced to jump Vanilla ship and are ruefully swimming back to shore, it might bef worth it to sign up at Battle.net to reenroll in Alliance or Horde ranks this August 30th.
