Black Ops 4 for PC Will Be a Blizzard Battle.net Exclusive

The latest Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 from Treyarch Studios has been buzzing with updates. As mxdwn Games reported yesterday, this will be the first AAA title to take shot at the popular Battle Royale genre. Ever since PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS on PC hit mainstream fame with the genre, fans have been itching for a major developer to produce a AAA battle royale experience. Announced yesterday, Black Ops 4 and its new battle royale will enter the PC market exclusively through Blizzard Battle.net:

We’re pleased to announce that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 for PC will be available exclusively on Blizzard Battle.net this fall. As avid Call of Duty® players ourselves, we’re excited for the opportunity to work with the talented folks at Treyarch, Beenox, and Activision to help bring the next game in the acclaimed Black Ops series to Battle.net.

Since the 2008 merger of Activision and Vivendi Games (then-parent company to Blizzard) it seemed inevitable that IPs from both companies would cross in some way or another. Destiny 2 was the first non-Blizzard IP to be featured on their gaming platform Battle.net but previous to this announcement, Call of Duty games for PC were only available through Steam.

Blizzard made an interesting point in yesterday’s announcement in terms of what non-Blizzard IPs to expect in the future:

As we mentioned last year, integrating any new game on Blizzard Battle.net is a big commitment of time and resources, so we will evaluate every opportunity on a case by case basis. We don’t have any long-term plans to open up the platform to a lot of other games, so our focus is on supporting the current games on Battle.net.

Ultimately, it’s quite exciting to see the passion that’s formed between developers Treyard, Beenox and Blizzard. You can get a glimpse of this and some details of what to expect for the PC port in this behind-the-scenes video:

Like its console counterparts, the PC version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be available this coming October 12. You can also sign up for a chance to play the upcoming closed private beta here.
