Black Desert Online has officially released their take on the battle royale genre after putting it in Early Access for a short period from January to February. Developers at Pearl Abyss fully released the Shadow Arena yesterday with fixes to the game mode after receiving feedback from the community and discussing what will and won’t be changed. Here is the original overview video from the developers:
Shadow Arena: Battle Royale can be entered into by solo players or a party in a classic last-man or team-standing fight with fifty in a game. To celebrate the release of the game mode, Black Desert Online has begun a Ranking Event to give players certain rewards depending on how they finish in either solo or party queues at the end of the event. The scores will be cumulative for the entire event and Pearl Abyss has taken measures to make sure the same people are not claiming all of the rewards. The top three finishers in solo matches will not be able to get the top rewards in party play and vice versa. The winners will receive 20,000; 10,000; 5,000 coins and a value pack respectively based on placement.
The top three scorers will not be the only winners though; the top place in all solo modes for each class will also be awarded cash and value packs. The winners from Highest Scores will be excluded from these rewards too. And as a reward for all participants in the event, any players that survive more than seven minutes in a match seven separate times will receive a Blessing of Kamasylve.
Even if gamers in the industry are beginning to see a trend in the oversaturation of the battle royale game mode, it almost seems to be an expected feature in many games. This take on the genre may stand out as Black Desert Online’s popularity has been growing as of late and this take on the battle royale doesn’t involve guns, but instead mystic warriors.
