Back in 2022, EA and Lucasfilm Games announced three new Star Wars games were in development under Respawn. One is the next installment of the Star Wars Jedi, the other was a new Star Wars first-person shooter; however that game has been canceled. The last thing that was announced at the time was a Star Wars strategy game. Now, three years later, Respawn and Bit Reactor are set to officially announce and reveal the Star Wars strategy game next month on April 19 at Star Wars celebration in Japan.

While not much has been revealed about the game as of yet, Bit Reactor is a new studio formed by veterans from Firaxis Games who developed XCOM and Civilization. Bit Reactor is leading development of the game while Respawn is producing.
Last year, following layoffs at EA, Respawn’s Star Wars FPS was canceled. EA Entertainment President Laura Miele said “Respawn’s unique ability to connect with players and create exceptional game experiences is unrivaled in entertainment. As we’ve looked at Respawn’s portfolio over the last few months, what’s clear is the games our players are most excited about are Jedi and Respawn’s rich library of owned brands. Knowing this, we have decided to pivot away from early development on a Star Wars FPS Action game to focus our efforts on new projects based on our owned brands while providing support for existing games.”
Star Wars Celebration is set to take place April 18-20 with panels set for three stages across the three days. The panel for the Star Wars strategy game is set for 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm. Those who aren’t attending in-person can catch colorful commentary, surprise celebrity guests, and exclusive interviews on the live stream with the return of Star Wars Celebration LIVE!
