One of 2019’s most disappointing multiplayer games is getting a complete redesign. Anthem, developed by game studio BioWare, is said to be getting “a longer-term redesign of the experience” that provides platers “a more substantial reinvention than an update or expansion.”, as stated by the game’s developer.
Another big change to Anthem involves the stopping of seasonal content that players can buy. The team is said to be working on “reinventing the core gameplay loop with clear goals, motivating challenges, and progression with meaningful rewards,” according to the official blog post.
Plans for this game change were first revealed by Kotaku in November. They also reported how the time put into development seemed to fail the game entirely, as they did not convey the vision that the title described.
Anthem generated a lot of excitement in the time before the release days, but that excitement quickly died out when players experienced (or rather have yet to experience) something happening in the game. To rub salt further into the wound, the story for Anthem was lackluster coming from studio known for their storytelling abilities. Another big complaint about Anthem was that there was hardly any looting available in the game that was advertised as a “loot shooter”.
Casey Hudson, Bioware’s general manager, said the current version of Anthem will stay up, and it will only have in-game events and store refreshers. He did not specify if the new version will be a separate release like Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn, but he did go on to write that the game needs;
“fundamental work… to bring out the full potential of the experience… specifically working to reinvent the core gameplay loop with clear goals, motivating challenges, and progression with meaningful rewards—while preserving the fun of flying and fighting in a vast science-fantasy setting.”
