Last week, a report from Kotaku suggested that the next Dragon Age game was rebooted while in development to allow for more “live” elements; this led to questions over whether or not Dragon Age 4 would have micro transactions. EA has also recently confirmed that it believes in microtransactions, making the theory seem quite plausible. While we won’t know the answer to that question either way for some time, Dragon Age producer Casey Hudson took to Twitter to allay concerns over what exactly “live elements” would mean for the future of the franchise.
Hudson tweeted that while it was “too early to talk details,” fans of Dragon Age would be “relieved to see what the team is working on.” The next game, regardless of anything else, will remained focused on story and characters.
The next Dragon Age will be a follow-up to the highly successful Dragon Age: Inquisition, released in October 2014. Although a new game has not been officially announced yet, Dragon Age-related content is definitely in the works at Bioware, as confirmed by Hudson and Dragon Age’s former creative director Mike Laidlaw. Before his departure from Bioware, Laidlaw said on the 1099 Podcast that something was happening with the franchise.
Bioware is focusing fully on its upcoming IP Anthem, but hopefully we’ll get an official announcement of the next Dragon Age in coming months.
