BioShock 2 Update On Steam Gives Free DLC, Removes DRM

A major update for the Steam version of BioShock 2 has altered many features surrounding the game, including Steam achievements, controller support, and DRM.

The most noticeable change is that now all BioShock 2 owners have access to the Minerva’s Den DLC that features a separate story in a new part of Rapture, as well as new weapons, plasmids, and enemy types. Minerva’s Den had previously been unavailable on Steam, making this a nice treat for Steam-using BioShock fans.

The update also removes Games for Windows Live – a necessity due to the service’s upcoming closure – and the Securom DRM that required users to activate their copies of the game online and previously limited a user’s number of game installs.

Finally, BioShock 2 now officially has Steam controller support, Steam achievements, and improved multiplayer matchmaking as its online support is taken over by Steam.

If these changes upset you because you own a non-Steam PC version of BioShock 2, fear not. All BioShock 2 game keys now unlock activate a Steam copy.
