Last month, the original developers of the beloved point-and-click adventure game Shadowgate announced that they are working on a sequel, 30+ years later. At the time, they also announced a Kickstarter for the game, Beyond Shadowgate. The Kickstarter went live on February 18 and in just four hours, they were able to reach their goal. The developers have outlined some stretch goals that backers can expect if the numbers are reached.
“Thanks so much to everyone who backed us! Four hours and we hit our goal! You know, it’s been a strange journey,” David Marsh, one of the original developers of the first game and working on the sequel said. ” I’m 58 now and Karl and I made Shadowgate when we were 20 (started it in 1984). I’ve worked on many many versions of Shadowgate (can you say Pocket PC?!) but the NES version was always one of my favorites and now, to see the 4 binder Beyond Shadowgate design doc come to life – well, it’s wonderful! I want to thank the team here at Zojoi, GrahfMetal and 317 Games for all the hard work on the game so far!”
Stretch goals for Beyond Shadowgate will come in the form of bonus chapters. “The adventure Beyond Shadowgate goes to strange and wonderous new places! Visit familiar (and dangerous!) locations as your journey takes you through magical portals and into alternate realities within the Beyond Shadowgate game!” developer Zojoi said. They plan to weave these bonus chapters into the main game.
Currently, as of this writing, the Kickstarter sits at $42,301. The first stretch goal was set at $40,000 which means the Uninvited bonus chapter is coming to the game. Players will step back into the haunted maze once more in a multi-room side adventure through additional rooms and uncover new mysteries that expand the game and add to the quest.
At $55,000, players will experience Deja Vu and explore the seedy side of Chicago. Within this multi-room portal lies a mystery that must be solved if players are not only survive in the Windy City but complete the quest.
A third stretch goal is set at $70,000 but no additional information has been given yet.
