Bethesda Shows Faith in Fallout: London by Hiring its Designers

Fallout: London could be a confusing prospect for people unfamiliar with the project, but the fan-made DLC-sized mod for Fallout 4 is making spectacular progress. Announced officially with a gameplay trailer just last month, Fallout: London promises an experience fundamentally different than its source game counterparts – it is set somewhere other than America.

As a result, the fans behind Fallout: London, The FOLON Team, have been able to explore different aspects of the post-apocalyptic landscape of the Fallout chronology untouched by the specific American fallout effects. This has led to exciting and different visuals, the site boasting anything from “stuffy parliamentary aristocrats to a resurrection of the Knights of the Round Table to an uncompromising cult of revolutionaries” and much more, including a list of 7 entirely new factions. Needless to say, the commitment behind this fan-made mod is remarkable, so many hours dedicated to the preservation and exploration of Bethesda’s universe. Now, it seems, Bethesda has taken notice – the developer behind the Fallout franchise has begun to hire Fallout: London’s own devs.

In a “bittersweet” Tweet from the Fallout: London account, they announced that lead technical advisor Ryan Johnson would be leaving the project after a job offer from Bethesda themselves. While they wished him well and were “excited to see the worlds” he’ll build at his new job, hoping for some easter eggs in the future Bethesda projects, they announced that another of their team, Project Lead Dean Carter was offered a position with Fallout: 76 but declined it after some “soul-searching.” These two cases are remarkable in and of themselves, but about a year ago, Dean Carter announced on Twitter that the lead writer of the Fallout: London project, Stephanie Zachariadis, was given a position as associate quest designer at Bethesda.

Clearly, Bethesda’s interest in the team indicates the mod’s fidelity tenfold, as three different members of the team have been offered dream-level positions in the matter of a year. As the FOLON team assures that these departures will not slow down the mod’s progress, its release is scheduled for 2023. Any fans of the Fallout franchise should keep their eyes on the horizon for this pseudo-DLC, as it’s sure to not disappoint.
