Bethesda Has Confirmed: There Will Be a Wolfenstein 3

The story of BJ Blazkowicz is far from over. Bethesda may have thrown off the scent with its announcement of Wolfenstein: Youngblood at E3 this year, but now it has been confirmed that a Wolfenstein 3 is, at some point, coming. Bethesda’s vice president of global marketing and communications, Pete Hines, made the confirmation in a recent interview with Metro.

When asked for a guarantee on the next Wolfenstein installment, Hines replied, “Absolutely we’re making a Wolfenstein III. They said on stage that they’re taking a break from the larger story to do this thing. But we all have to see how that ends.” So, it seems we’ll be back to fighting Nazis with BJ Blazkowicz sooner or later.

While that’s good news for fans of the Wolfenstein, that’s about all the news there is where Wolfenstein 3 is concerned. Beyond that, we’ll have to see what Bethesda does once Youngblood has released. In the meantime, Bethesda already has plenty of plans for 2019; in addition to Wolfenstein: YoungbloodDoom Eternal and Rage 2 are both due next year. And before that, Fallout 76 is coming this November. During the interview, Hines also managed to hint that the future of Dishonored isn’t as quiet as fans might think; despite word that the franchise was “resting,” Hines added: “I wouldn’t read too much into that. Look, Arkane has two studios, they’re working on a number of things. That’s no different than Todd Howard saying, ‘I’m gonna make a Fallout game and then I’m gonna make Starfield before I go back to TES6’. He didn’t say I’m never making another… there’s like, ‘We have an idea for another thing here, we have an idea for another there’.”

As for Wolfenstein: Youngblood, it does tie in to the main series. Youngblood follows the battles of twin sisters Jessica and Sophia (the daughters of BJ Blazkowicz) as they continue the resistance against the Nazis. The game takes place in the 1980s, and is playable in either solo mode or a co-op mode.

Glenn Carreau: Hi! I'm Glenn: recent college grad specializing in interactive arts and media, writer, game creator and connoisseur, pop culture junkie, and semi-professional fan-artist and blogger. In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
