The 2D brawler with action-RPG elements puts players into the roles of two outcast teenage twins Jenn and Tristan, who uncover a portal into the threatening world of goblins. Young Souls can be played either solo or co-op, allowing for solo players to switch between both characters at their will. The story advances with the availability to travel between the stunning scenery of Portsbourgh or exploring the unique biomes of the goblin world. The duality between the two worlds was key to 1P2P, as players are able to travel to the goblin world through a portal located in the basement of their home.
The brawler portion occurs inside dungeons. There are 20 fearsome bosses on top of hordes of aggressive goblins to defeat as the teens strive to save the world. Players are able to improve their stats by leveling up, improve their gear and interact with NPCs. This progression will allow for players to handle the hordes which increase in difficulty as the game goes on. Specific equipment also helps boost stats, as certain weapons and combat gear offer exclusive features which personalize a player’s experience and help progress the character in any way one wishes.
As an added bonus, visual customization was a major part of Young Souls’ development process. Players are able to customize Jenn and Tristan’s cosmetics, such as combining medieval armor with a denim jacket and sneakers. Colorful yet taking a more ‘mature cartoon’ video game form, this RPG is one to look out for. It doesn’t quite break the bank either, set at the regular price of $24.99 USD. Plenty of gameplay trailers can be found on YouTube in order to prepare for Young Souls‘ release.
