Beamdog Announces Next Project: Neverwinter Nights Enhanced Edition

Beamdog has revealed its latest restoration project, as an enhanced edition of Bioware’s 2002 roleplaying game Neverwinter Nights is in the works. Beamdog, a developer comprised primarily of ex-Bioware employees, has been steadily revamping each of Bioware and Black Isle Studios’ old-school Dungeons & Dragons-themed roleplaying hits: Baldurs Gate I and II, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment. In a statement on its blog, Beamdog confirmed that Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition is “coming soon.”

The enhanced edition will be the modernized version of NWN‘s old Diamond edition, encompassing all content released for Neverwinter Nights. NWN: EE will contain the base game, the game’s two expansion packs – Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark – plus premium modules, the Aurora Toolset, and the Dungeon Master Client, which allow players to build and share their own custom modules. Additions to the game include three brand new modules, new portraits, and two soundtracks (both the original and enhanced edition’s music).

In Beamdog’s statement, a few notable enhancements were highlighted as well. “We’ve added an improved display that looks great on modern monitors,” Beamdog wrote. “Your portrait, combat bar, inventory, and other UI elements now adjust in size based on your chosen resolution and you can select what size scaling you prefer. We’ve also added Advanced Graphics Options! We believe the added pixel shaders and post-processing effects make for crisper, cleaner visuals. Now you can choose to enable contrast, vibrance, and depth of field options as you desire.” NWN: EE will also have backwards compatibility, supporting save games and mods from the original version.

Beamdog has promised that more information will be rolling out soon. Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition is available for pre-order now on the Beamdog Store, and can be added to your Steam wishlist.

In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
