Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon Story Trailer, Demo Out Now

After being revealed during The Game Awards 2022, there’s been little to no mention of Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon Story. PlatinumGames has been very quiet about the spin-off entry to the mainline Bayonetta franchise, until now. The developer, along with Nintendo, have just unveiled brand new story trailer for the game, which is chalked full of gameplay. Nintendo also revealed that a demo for the title would be available right after the announcement was made, which means that you can go check that out if you own a Nintendo Switch and see just how the game plays before it releases later this month.

The trailer shows Cereza training to become a witch, all while slacking and doubting herself in the process. Cereza then traverses into a dark forest against her teacher’s warnings, showcasing the game’s platforming features with the cell-shaded graphics on full display. Cereza then summons a puppet-looking demon, who is then seen attacking enemies and obstacles similar to how Bayonetta uses Gamorrah and Labolas in the mainline series. Cereza gains the demon’s trust over time, allowing her to use it to its fullest potential and survive the forest.

Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon doesn’t play quite like the original Bayonetta title, instead opting for a semi-isometric camera angle with a bit more strategy in mind. The story is obviously meant to take place long before any of the mainline entries, giving players a real glimpse of just how she became the powerful witch we all know her to be. As we mentioned earlier, Nintendo is offering a demo for those interested in trying it out before it releases. You can check it out on the Nintendo Switch Online store.

Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon launches for the Nintendo Switch on March 17, 2023.
