DICE has been updating Battlefield V ever since it launched in the Fall of 2018. The game has been receiving new content on a near-constant basis, with the “Tides of War” live service that expands upon the campaign and other in-game features. Sadly, it looks like both EA and DICE are ready to move on from the WWII shooter. EA has announced that there will be one final update for the game coming this June, and after that, it will no longer be supported with the exception of small hotfixes and patches here and there.
The update, which is outlined in the blog post by Senior Producer Ryan McArthur, doesn’t really explain a whole lot in what we can expect to see in terms of actual content. While it is shown that we will indeed be getting “New Content” there isn’t any sort of detailed description in regards to what that content is. The post does reveal one screenshot of a potential battleground, but where it’s supposed to take place is anyone’s guess. The most recent Chapter, Into The Jungle, brought us to the Solomon Islands which takes place in the Pacific Theater during WWII, so it’s possible that this next Chapter will bring us to the European Theater in some capacity.
In addition, the final update will also include some other changes to the online multiplayer. The Weekly Rewards will now include Battlefield Currency or Company Coin which is the in-game currency used to purchase extra gear for online multiplayer. DICE is also planning on bringing back the Friday Night Battlefield Servers as part of the Events and Activities section. The studio will continue to work on Community Game Updates and will let us know when they are ready to be implemented. Lastly, DICE also re-emphasizes the continued support of anti-cheating in the game. This includes not only PC players on Origin, but also those playing on the PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. They even outlined a detailed walkthrough for those who suspect a player is cheating in the game, which can be viewed here.
Even though this is the last major content release for Battlefield V, it’s refreshing to see that DICE is still committed to ensuring that everyone is enjoying the game in every alleyway and avenue. Hopefully, the studio can get the update out by the targeted June time frame, and that it isn’t delayed by the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic which has already made an indelible mark on the video game industry. Battlefield V is available now for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
