Battlefield V Battle Royale Unveiled as Firestorm, Supports 64 Players

Were only two days away from the Battlefield V Open Beta going live, but that hasn’t stopped EA and Dice from revealing more about their upcoming WWII epic. Ever since it was announced this year, the Battle Royale Mode has been shrouded in mystery, with little to no information released, and the only confirmation being that it will be launched sometime after the game’s initial release. However, today we got some more details regarding this, with a new trailer to boot, titled “This is Battlefield V.”

The trailer showcases the signature Battlefield experience that everyone has come to know and love throughout the years, but it also reveals the new Battle Royale mode, now given the name Firestorm. Firestorm will have up to 64 players on a map all at once, with squads of 16, each with 4 players to battle it out and be the last team remaining. This means that their are no solo or duo modes for Firestorm, an interesting decision given the immense popularity of how those are both implemented by PlayerUnknown’s Battleground and Fortnite. According to the trailer, this will also be the largest map in the history of the Battlefield franchise. Their wasn’t any actual gameplay from the Firestorm, but it was mentioned that the destructible buildings and landscape that other Battlefield games are known for will be present in the new mode.

In addition, the trailer also showcased the new Single Player mode, called War Stories, similar to the last game, Battlefield 1. Four stories will be available at launch, with a fifth one releasing sometime after. The ever popular multiplayer that the series boasts returns, and although it wasn’t specific to how many maps we’ll receive when the game comes out, it did state that we will be exploring eight unknown settings. After the initial launch, the Tides of War live service will commence, with even more locations.

This all comes hot off the heels of the recent announcement of Battlefield V being delayed until November 20, a whole month after its original release date. EA may be looking to rebound from that, and with this new trailer and the Open Beta, they just might find themselves back on track. The Beta is available to a select few right now, but the official Open Beta will begin on Thursday, September 6.
