Early last month, EA teased reveal for the next entry in the Battlefield franchise sometime in June. We’re now into the month and EA has followed up on this promise. The company has announced via Twitter that they will make the official reveal on Wednesday, June 9, just one day before the Summer Game Fest, and two days before E3 2021, making an already busy week even busier in the video game industry.
Very little is known about this new entry, not even the official title which is almost an anomaly in today’s video game community of constant and rumors coming and going. However, there was a very brief video meant for internal use that was somehow leaked and made its way around the internet. Obviously, nothing concrete ever became of this and the final product will more than likely differ greatly from what was shown there.
What we do know is that this Battlefield has become a top priority for EA, so much so that the company has stated that they “have the biggest Battlefield development team ever” working on this entry. The company also delayed the progress of the next Need for Speed until 2022 in order for them to assist with DICE’s development. Some of the prevailing theories and rumors coming out in recent months are that the new Battlefield, which has also been given the unofficial title of Battlefield 6, will take place in a more modern setting.
If this turns out to be the case, then it will be the first modern FPS in the franchise since 2013’s Battlefield 4. DICE followed up the latter with two historical entries, Battlefield 1 and Battlefield V, both of which covered World War I and World War II respectively. It’s possible that more leaks could come out, and with just one week before the official reveal, it wouldn’t be a surprise if this comes to pass. EA is also hosting their own video game showcase event, EA Play Live, much later on July 22, in which we will more than likely see much more of this new Battlefield after it’s announced.
