Battlefield One to Get Free DLC Update Tomorrow

In a blog post earlier today, DICE announced that they would be releasing a free update for their popular game Battlefield 1. This new update will include a new map, weapon, and game mode for players to use free of charge.

The new map being added has been named “Giant’s Shadow” and will be based on the battle of Selle that took place in 1918. There will be a, “massive crashed airship casting its shadow onto the battlefield, you can expect fierce combat on the open ground and river banks alongside the Cateau-Wassigny railway.” Players will also be able to get their hands on a new weapon, the grenade crossbow, which will turn any armored vehicle into a pile of rubble.

As for the new mode, Spector, players will be able to join a live Battlefield 1 game as an observer. Once in the game, you will have the ability to switch between players, in either first or third person. You’ll also be able to use a Free Cam option and fly though the battlefield and get the shots you want. “Spectator Mode will also be a viable tool for the community to create content which includes a moveable third-person camera, depth of field, and various camera filters.” The blog post also mentions that players can expect improved “usability and flow” when choosing to switch camera modes, or from player to player.

In addition to Spector mode, players will also get a new custom game option, Standard Issue Rifles, which when used, will grant players with access to only their faction’s standard issue rifle. This adds a true to life experience by forcing players to use a single rifle, without a scope, to be similar to how actual soldiers fought during WWI. Payers can enable or disable this option with other weapon types as well.

Lastly, they will be adding in a new balancing system for shotguns, as some variants were able to be far superior at certain ranges. The update will reduce the range for the M97 Trench Gun, Model 10-A, and sawed off shotguns to reduce the maximum one-hit kill distance.

Players who have a premium pass will be given early access to the update and be allowed to play tomorrow, December 13th. For all others, the new content will be unlocked, free of charge, on December 20th.
