If you’re an Xbox player who’s a big fan of futuristic blood sport movies like Battle Royale and want a similar game that’s more violent than Minecraft’s “Hunger Games” mode, then you’re in luck. According to a recent report by IGN, Microsoft has announced that the competitive survival game The Culling will be coming to Xbox One.
The game, which is still in Early Access on Steam, will be available through the Xbox One Game Preview program on June 2nd. The Culling has become fairly popular with PC gamers, having been available on Steam’s Early Access since early March of last year.
The price for the Xbox version has not yet been released, but the PC version costs $25, if that’s anything to go by. Developer Xaviant has said, The Culling captures “the spirit of the battle royale experience” and is primarily inspired by films like The Hunger Games and Battle Royale, or really, any sci-fi dystopian movie where people fight to the death (how come nobody talks about The Running Man anymore?)
In The Culling, players are placed on a small island where they must hunt, scavenge, and kill each other within 25 minutes, without any respawns. There are a variety of weapons players can use to murder each other with, including chainsaws, sledgehammers, steel punji sticks. The game also includes offline training matches, a crafting system, and a “Duos” mode, which let’s players team up with a friend and live out their Jennifer Lawrence/Josh Hutcherson fantasies.
The game is still in development, but hopefully by now, most of those early build bugs have been knocked out.
