The latest patch for Baldur’s Gate 3, Patch 7, has generated significant excitement among the gaming community and has made a considerable impact, especially in the modding world. Since its release on September 5th, over a million mods have been installed, showcasing the game’s vibrant and engaged modding scene.
Larian Studios’ CEO, Swen Vincke, highlighted this remarkable milestone: “Modding is pretty big,” with over a million mods installed within the first 24 hours. This number quickly surged even higher. A few hours later, Scott Reismanis, founder of ModDB and mod.io, updated Vincke’s statement, revealing that the number of mod installs had already surpassed three million and was continuing to rise.
Patch 7 brings some notable features to the game. One of the most anticipated additions is new evil endings, which provide players with darker narrative routes to explore. Alongside these story expansions, Larian Studios introduced its own Mod Manager, a new tool that allows players to browse, install, and manage community-created mods directly within the game. This promises to make modding more accessible and streamline the entire process for players.

Another significant update in Patch 7 includes improvements to split-screen gameplay, refining the cooperative experience for players. However, Larian’s most ambitious goal is cross-platform modding support. Vincke acknowledged that this is a complex task, as it involves ensuring mods work across both PC and consoles. While the team is starting with the PC version, the console modding experience is expected to follow later after going through the necessary approval processes. Vincke emphasized that the extra time for console support would allow the studio to address any issues that arise on PC first.
As for Larian Studios’ future, while there were brief considerations for Baldur’s Gate 4, the team has decided to focus on other new projects. Larian has referred to their latest work as the studio’s “best work ever,“ signaling exciting prospects for their next ventures.
The latest patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 enhances the game and solidifies its place as a fan favorite for modding.
