In today’s gaming world, AAA fantasy role-playing games like The Witcher 3 reign supreme in the genre. In response, emerging developer Bad Ridge Games collaborated with V Publishing to create a unique contribution to this gaming category.
On May 17th, Bad Ridge Games released an announcement teaser for their debut game: Mirthwood. Inspired by notable fantasy RPGs like Fable, Stardew Valley, and Rimworld, Bad Ridge Games approaches Mirthwood‘s development with an insightful mindset. Bad Ridge Games and V Publishing released the teaser on their respective social platforms, with more information being revealed through supplemental material.
In a press release about Mirthwood, the developers explained how the game contains an expansive open world and non-linear progression. They write, “Players can choose what kind of life they want to lead. Those with wanderlust may elect to navigate through treacherous forests, explore ancient ruins, and battle against formidable creatures to uncover the land’s hidden treasures.”
Mirthwood is categorized as a life-sim RPG, meaning the world is highly interactive. Players can choose to settle down and pursue farming ventures, which could lead to beneficial relationships within the local town. Bustling with diverse personalities, players can build friendships that could lead to unique rewards, quests, and budding romances. Alternatively, players can also embark on quests and fight a variety of enemies. Further, Mirthwood features a crafting system that allows players to forge weapons and items which can aid them in quests.
“Mirthwood offers players a deep and engaging experience, with a rich world and questing system filled with twists and turns,” the developers write. “Along the way, players will contend with the unpredictable world around them, making choices that affect their character and others, allowing for multiple playthroughs and unique experiences.”
Mirthwood is scheduled to release in 2024 for Microsoft Windows. The game is currently available to wishlist on Steam.
