Award-Winning Writer Rhianna Pratchett to Deliver PAX Aus 2018 Opening Keynote

With PAX Aus 2018 a few months away, ticket sales have already gone underway, and announcements of special guests, talent, and more are sure to be on the way in the coming weeks. One of the first big announcements coming from PAX Aus is the now revealed opening keynote speaker, Rhianna Pratchett.

For those unaware of who Rhianna Pratchett is, she is the award-winning writer behind some of the most well-received video games in the past decade. Her works include being a writer for Heavenly Sword, the Overlord Series, Mirror’s Edge, and most recently, Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider. Her writing has had such a powerful, lasting impact that she has received numerous awards from the Writer’s Guild of America, Writer’s Guild of Great Britain, South by Southwest, DICE, and she even earned herself a BAFTA nomination.

In addition to writing for video games, Pratchett has also had an impact in the world of comics. She has helped create Tomb Raider and Mirror’s Edge stories for both Dark Horse and DC Comics. She has also been involved with project in conjunction with Film4, O3 Productions, and even the Jim Henson Company.

“Rhianna is, frankly, an inspiration. And while we’re being frank, she’s one of the most prominent, impressive writers in video games and beyond,” said Luke Lancaster, content manager of PAX Aus, in a press release. “We couldn’t be more excited for her to take the stage at PAX Aus 2018 to share her story and experiences.”

Pratchett also weighed in on the gracious opportunity to be the opening keynote speaker at PAX Aus. She stated that she is “hugely delighted to be sharing tales of my narrative adventures at my first PAX in the land of pie floaters, Icehouse and Yahoo Serious.”

PAX Aus 2018 will run from October 26 to October 28 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre with the keynote occurring on the first day of the event.
