Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game Delays Release for Nintendo Switch, Xbox Hours Before Launch

Following months of buildup and fan anticipation, the team behind Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game came to X (formerly Twitter) to clarify details relating to the game’s launch, just hours before the game was scheduled to go live. “As we approach launch, we want to update our community on a few platform-specific details,” the social media team explains.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game was still able to release today on almost all expected platforms (PlayStation, Xbox Series X and S, Steam, and Nintendo Switch), but with a catch, depending on what console the game had been purchased for.  They go further, stating that “for Nintendo Switch players, the Nintendo Switch version will be available as the Standard Edition only.” This means that until the Deluxe Edition,  “crossplay with other platforms and language localization beyond English will not be available. As for when, exactly, the Nintendo update will be available, is unclear. As stated on the X post, the team is “committed to bringing these features, along with upgrading to Deluxe Edition, to players as soon as possible and will keep you updated on our timeline and progress. Those who preordered Deluxe Edition copies will still be able to access their game, but should expect to wait some time before the full game is released.

Xbox users, however, will not be able to play Avatar Legends at all, regardless of edition. The team states that, “for the Xbox community, we are forced to delay the release.” The post is relatively vague about reasoning, reading “due to unforeseen circumstances on a backend feature, we will now launch by Sept. 3.” At the moment, eager fans who have already preordered will not be atomically issued a refund. Instead, “existing pre-orders will remain active and will not be canceled.”

This announcement has received heavy backlash from fans in the comment section. “Delaying an anticipated game by a month and a half less than 24 hours before release is actually insane. Do better, @paramountgames” says one angry fan, while another disappointed follower states that, “Delaying your game HOURS before release on XBOX is horrible management. Zero excuses. You should’ve known this WELL IN ADVANCE.” “Keep your game, not buying it. Was looking forward to it so much as an Avatar TLA fan.” they declare, attaching a screenshot of their game wishlist. The PlayStation and Steam releases appear to remain unaffected by this delay.
