The abilities and fashion statements of characters in the Assassin’s Creed franchise are coming to Final Fantasy XV. Available as a free update for both the Xbox and PlayStation, a limited-time Assassin’s Festival will be hosted at the in-game city of Lestallum. Beginning next week on August 31st, the new content carries over gameplay elements from Assassin’s Creed, mini-games, and exclusive items.
This collaboration between Assassin’s Creed developer Ubisoft and Final Fantasy‘s Square Enix was announced this week at Gamescom, though a post on Ubisoft’s blog revealed that the seeds for the crossover were planted nearly three years ago at the Tokyo Games Show. The collaboration is a result of mutual respect from both development teams, and “will result in the two franchises paying homage to each other’s gaming universes.” The announcement was accompanied by the unveiling of new art at Gamescom featuring Assassin’s Creed: Origin‘s Bayek, and Final Fantasy XV‘s Noctis.
On August 30th, Final Fantasy players can receive an assassin’s outfit, and the full-fledged festival will launch the next day. The Assassin’s Festival will feature another costume from Assassin’s Creed, and stealthy, assassin-like exploration abilities for Noctis. If the trailer is anything to go by, players will even be able to perform a Leap of Faith into the city.
As of right now, there’s no word on whether Assassin’s Creed: Origins will get the Final Fantasy treatment after it launches on October 27th. The Assassin’s Festival will run from next week’s launch date until January 31st, 2018.
