Assassin’s Creed 4 is a must-play for anyone trying to get into the franchise, a departure from its usual tales of secret societies and conspiracy to focus on something simpler and more fun- being a pirate. Set in the early 18th Century, you play as Welsh pirate-later turned Assassin Edward Kenway, the grandfather of Assassin’s Creed 3 main character Connor, as he sets about across the West Indies during the Golden Age of Piracy in search of treasure and a mythical First Civilization location known as “the Observatory”. For many Assassin’s Creed fans this is one of the perfect entry-points of the franchise, with AC4 being considered one of the best games in the series. Some might be put off by the older graphics, gameplay, etc., and while those who haven’t played may feel like they missed out not having played already or during its peak, an opportunity awaits them now, that being the release of an Assassin’s Creed 4 remake which will take fans back to the beloved pirate-themed game’s time period and setting.
Rumored to have been in development for years, Assassin’s Creed 4 Resynced was officially revealed today, with countdown to its full reveal on April 23rd, 2026 coming alongside it. This is just one of several Assassin’s Creed remakes on the way, which were confirmed by Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot back in 2024. According to Guillemot, the remakes aim to “modernize” older entries, and reportedly will avoid any gameplay-sections tied to the modern day-narrative of Assassin’s Creed games, often controversial among fans of the series.
News of this remake is exciting to many- Assassin’s Creed 4 came out more than a decade ago to critical acclaim and has been remembered fondly ever since. I myself still remember my days playing back in high school stalking Spanish and British infantry from the tree-tops and bushes of the tropics, or setting sail onto the high seas in search of adventure as you listened to a fun shanty sung by your crew. I am certainly looking forward to returning to this world with Resynced’s eventual release, and await more news that is to come following the full reveal on the 23rd.
