As PUBG and Fortnite Continue to Compete, Fortnite Tries to Surpass Minkonet’s Advanced Replay System

It should come as no surprise that PUBG and Fortnite are still neck-and-neck in trying to dominate the battle royale market. Recently, Fortnite made a huge stride to overtake PUBG by releasing their brand new replay system. Although PUBG already has a replay system, the folks over at Minkonet are constantly trying to stay ahead of the curve by advancing their replay tools with the concept of game video content on the mind.

Game video content is simply user-made content with gameplay footage of whatever. The most popular form of game video content comes from Twitch, where hundreds of thousands of streamers create this kind of content on a daily basis. With roughly 15 million daily view on Twitch, and over 355 billion minutes of Twitch footage watched just in 2017 alone, the market for game video content is evergrowing.

To capitalize on this rapid expansion of content, replay updates that are given to PUBG have the future of game video content well thought out. Currently, the replay system gives players the ability to capture and manipulate action from complex, interactive 3D gaming environments. Among the newest tools, creators currently have the ability to play with multiple and customizable camera angles that can easily be navigated through, and a smooth fast forward, rewind, and pause feature.

The most impressive aspect of this replay system, however, is its data capture method. Because of the way data is recorded, replays are able to be viewed without slowdown or lag in any resolution up to 4K. These replays are also viewable on any internet-connected device which includes mobile phones and even set-top boxes.

In a press release, Gilbert Kim, President and COO of Minkonet, gave insight to the thought process behind these impressive advancements of the PUBG replay system:

Gaming is a burgeoning segment of entertainment as evidenced not only by the millions who play daily, but also by the additional 665 million people who regularly watch live streams of gameplay. We believe [game video content’s] popularity is due, in large part, to the fact that consumers are in charge of the creative process – the sheer volume of frag movies on YouTube will confirm that. Our goal is to continue supplying gamers with tools to capture and share epic gaming experiences, while at the same time providing an avenue for creators to gain a foothold in this massive, thriving market.

These advanced replay tools for PUBG are currently available for all users, and with constant updates and tweaking being made, there is no telling what might come next.
