ARG Leads to No Man’s Sky Update Coming in August

No Man’s Sky was undoubtedly the most disappointing video game of 2016, but that hasn’t stopped the developers at Hello Games from trying to breathe new life into their mostly dead space simulator. According to an article from PC Gamer, Hello Games has stealthily suggested a new update coming to No Man’s Sky this August, and they announced it through an alternate reality game.

Last month, Hello Games started their Waking Titan ARG by sending cassette tapes to various Reddit moderators, and it involved various websites, phone numbers to call and even radio stations from across the world. Not much was known about the purpose of the game at the time, other than it was somehow tied to No Man’s Sky. After a month of research and detective work, the redditors came to the conclusion that it all points to a patch coming in August known as update 1.3.

The specific clue which lead to this conclusion is a PDF file which references “180 Access IDs” and “new experiences in version 1.3 of a familiar universe.” The 180 IDs is clearly a reference to the 180 free copies of the game that have been scattered throughout the ARG, while “version 1.3” is, of course, update 1.3 to the world of No Man’s Sky.

As for the release date, the PDF file mentions they “intend to keep the process alive until the completion of Project Waking Titan in August,” suggesting that the end of the ARG will closely be followed by the update.

The previous No Man’s Sky update, patch 1.22, brought “exocraft” buggies to the game and were well received enough to bring some players back. The contents of this new update, however, remain unclear.
