Apple’s iOS 14 Update Transforms Mobile Gaming Experience

Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2020 announced the new gaming features for the upcoming iOS 14 update. This includes new additions to the long-overdue Game Center. In a combination of this update and existing Apple Arcade gaming service, iOS 14 may revolutionize how users will view and interact with mobile gaming in the future. The first new update is the focus on a flexible gaming experience. iOS14 will allow users to continue their gameplay from Apple Arcade through their existing devices, such as the iPhone, iPad, or a large screen Apple TV. Through this flexibility to different devices, users will have easy access to their game anytime and anywhere when they sign into their personal account.

Users may also connect their personal controllers when playing Apple Arcade games. From a beginner to a pro-level player, the user can connect their existing controllers to iOS devices. As the Apple TV will support Xbox’s Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 and Adaptive Controller, users can enhance their gameplays through their choice of controller. Apple plans to include add more third-party controllers (e.g. keyboard and mouse) to their devices, which may invite non-Apple Arcade users to be part of the new immersive experience.

As for the Game Center update, users will be given new user interface for easier navigation. This includes sending friend invites and socializing with others through the Leaderboards, Achievements, and Multiplayer features. On the homepage, users can view their scores from weekly competitions for additional personal achievements. When they break their new personal record, scores can be viewed and shared with friends and family on the Game Center’s Leaderboard page. Therefore, if users want to show off their achievements, they can invite more players through the real-live multiplayer feature and continue to gain a new personal record.
