After the recent success of the high-profile Fortnite World Cup in which 16-year-old Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf walked away with cool 3 million dollar prize, Apex Legends decided to throw their hat into the tournament scene. Announced just today on Twitter, the Apex Legends Preseason Invitational is set to take place September 13-15 in Krakow, Poland. The tournament will see 80 teams of three, a total of 240 players, competing for a grand prize of $105,000.
The three-day tournament will more than likely see players from all over the world, and the very best at that, since the tournament is by invitation only. In order to be considered, teams of three must submit an email to EA including their Origin ID and email address associated with their accounts. It’s implied that there will be some sort of vetting process on EA’s part to include only the cream of the crop. If selected, teams are required to have captain, appropriate and unique team name, as well as submit a $150 team registration fee. The tournament will be available on PC only (sorry console players) and will have a combined prize pool of $500,000. The tournament’s Apex Predator, the kill-count leader that is, will receive a bonus of $8,000. You can check out the full ruleset here if you are interested in competing.
The Preseason Invitational is slated to take place just before the start of Season 3, which according to the Year One Roadmap, is set to begin sometime in September, though may start a bit later seeing as Season 2 did as well. Season 2: Battle Charge launched at the beginning of the month on July 2, and is expected to end sometime near the end of the month. Season 2 saw the release of new Champion Wattson, the new L-Star weapon, and more, so it will be interesting to see what’s to come for Season 3.
