Among Us Reaches a Million and a Half Players

Released back in 2018, Among Us is a four to ten player party game. The premise of the game is for the players to complete various tasks in-game to prep their spaceship for launch. While that premise may not sound quite as interesting as other games available on the market, Among Us does have a twist that places more pressure on the players. One of the players is secretly tasked to murder all of the other players before take-off. While it is no the most complex hurdle, it does add another issue has players need to work together to accomplish tasks.

Almost all of the gameplay comes, just like any multiplayer game, comes almost completely from the player interactions with each other. As the flashes of action as the killer offs another player, or when the crew safely discovers the imposter offer the moment to moment fun. The game has climbed up the popularity and reached one and half million players, which has caused some issues with servers as the game was not built to handle its extreme popularity.

The three-man development team that is Innersloth, is slowly building up their servers to keep pace with the games increasing popularity. Among Us supports crossplay between PC, iOS, and Android devices. Most of the game’s popularity comes from mobile devices with the PC variant has only reached shy of 200,000 Steam players. Although that does land it on Steams top popularity charts, it hardly accounts for the million and a half players. The game has also peaked at the top of Twitch for one of the most-viewed games.

Among Us is available to purchase for $5, and already has $20 worth of DLC content ranging from skins to hats. New game modes, options, and gameplay features are on the horizon as the game increases in popularity.

Griffin Gilman: Gaming may very well be half of my personality, so it is only natural that I write about them. The best genre is RPGs, while the best game is Nier Automata. That's not an opinion but a matter of facts.
