Amazon has officially announced the launch of its gaming service Luna in the United States. Despite originally launching in September of 2020, Luna has only been available to those who were invited to their early access program. The cloud-based games service will allow Amazon Prime members to stream games straight to their devices. Along with the overall launch, Amazon announced that they will be adding three new “channels” to the service. The “channels” that Amazon is referring to are bundles of games that will be available on Luna.
The first channel will be a Prime Gaming Channel. This channel will offer Amazon Prime members a different set of games each month that will be completely free to the users. The first set of games includes Devil May Cry 5, System Redux, Observer, and more for the month of March.
The second channel that is being added to Luna is a Retro Channel. The Retro Channel will include older games that many Prime users may have experienced throughout their childhood. According to Amazon, this channel is meant to help users “re-live the glory days of arcade gaming”. This channel will include many classic games from publishers such as Capcom and SNK.
Finally, the third channel that Luna will be adding is a Jackbox Games Channel. Jackbox is a gaming service that includes packs with many different popular games such as Quiplash and Trivia Murder Party. The channel will include all eight of the Jackbox Party Packs and many games for users to play.
The nationwide release of Luna comes after Amazon announced an increase to the price of Prime that makes it $14.99 a month. Additionally, the annual price of the service increased from $119 to $139. Luna is currently charging $9.99 per month for the Luna+ Channel and the Family Channel will cost just $5.99 a month.
