Well this was bound to happen eventually. If you’ve been following Capcom’s flagship fighting game, Street Fighter 6, you’d know that once in a very blue moon Capcom will update the game with a few aesthetics to keep things fresh, one such update being the unique VS screens players can use to personalize their characters. These VS screens are outsourced to fan art, and these fan artists give us some of the most unique and cool character arts in the series. However, it’s 2025 and it’s inevitable one of the arts will allegedly be AI.

Now, even with all the analysis on uncropped pixelated edges and white dots typical to AI images, these allegations are still just that, allegations. Though, it doesn’t help that this particular artist has been caught doing the same thing before, as well as plagiarizing fellow artists’ work.
damn they just vanished huh
just in case here are some screenshots of their now gone account, I still have the tab opened lol

Community events like the VS screen updates are a net positive for games, and incidents like these, while expected, shouldn’t discourage other artists from participating in them. And this isn’t to throw shade at Capcom either, AI art is getting better and better and it’s getting harder to accurately vet who is using AI assistance and who isn’t, though undoubtedly Capcom is going to be more strict on what type of art they allow if the allegations are found true.
Though, on a more positive note Hungry_Clicker, an artist famous for their speed, has given us an updated version of Kimberly’s VS screen art that everyone loves and knowing them it was done at lightspeed. The karma is doubly sweet if it’s true that Hungry_Clicker’s art was used in the AI submission.

AI is becoming more and more prevalent in every field, and we should look out for AI assistance in practically every facet of life, but it seems the art community is ground zero for these incidents, sadly.
