All Playable Heroes on Heroes of the Storm Are Free to Play Right Now

If you’ve ever wondered just how Blizzard Entertainment’s MOBA, Heroes of the Storm plays, this is easily the best time to try it out. From now until April 2, every single playable hero in the game is free to try out. The game currently consists of 88 heroes, all of which have their own unique abilities, talents, and traits. Normally you’d have to unlock hero through buying them with in-game currency or obtaining them in a loot box, but due to the worldwide ramifications of COVID-19, Blizzard is allowing anyone and everyone to try out all heroes.

For those who don’t know, Heroes of the Storm is an amalgamation of popular Blizzard Entertainment characters thrown into a well-crafted MOBA to duke it out in strategic 5 on 5 matches. Essentially, this is an all-star studded cast of numerous heroes/villains that have shaped the Blizzard gaming landscape at one point or another. The game initially launched in 2015, where it continued to grow its roster, as well as adding more events each year.

This included an esports league titled Heroes Global Championship (HGC), which would go onto have a fairly rabid fanbase. Sadly, at the end of 2018, Blizzard made the decision to cancel HGC completely, while also scaling back the development of the series in general. This left Heroes of the Storm in doubt for while, but to this day the game has continued to persevere against the dominating competitors such as Dota 2 and League of Legends. Since the majority of people staying at home seem to be playing online more and more, this is a nice gesture by Blizzard, who recognizes the severity of what’s happening around them.

As we said earlier, all 88 heroes will be available to play for free until April 2. They recently “unleashed” a brand new hero for the game, Deathwing, who doesn’t play like a normal hero. We were able to try him out at BlizzCon 2019 and were fairly impressed by his raw power. You can check out our impression of him here.

Heroes of the Storm is free-to-play on PC through Battle.net.
