Even after his gameplay trailer in January, there’s been a bit of mystery surrounding the next DLC character for Capcom’s Street Fighter 6, Third Strike protagonist Alex. Today, Capcom have released a character gameplay guide to dispel some of the obscurity surrounding his moveset so we get some concrete explanations as to how Alex is going to work.
We’ve got a lot of Alex’s classic moveset here from Third Strike (though the lack of any sort of headbutts is borderline criminal). His long limbs allow him to poke from a safe distance, and both Slash Elbow and Flash Chop are safe on block, potentially even safe, though there is a significant enough windup to the heavy version of those moves that are begging to either be Drive Impacted or Perfect Parried. The Lariat out of Prowler Stance is also plus enough that you can threaten the light version of Power Bomb from it, giving Alex the Command grab/strike mix all grapplers love.
Speaking of Prowler Stance, this guide goes into depth as to what that is as well. Giving us an explanation to many of the options coming out of Prowler Stance. Raw Prowler Stance in neutral is explicitly pointed out as fake in the guide, so that probably won’t be a very good option much of the time. In fact, it seems that a popular technique shown in the video is to use Prowler Stance on knockdown to get some gnarly oki with Lariat, and since Alex has command grabs specifically out of Prowler Stance to punish attempted Perfect Parries on said Lariat, on top of the regular Power Bomb command grab it looks like Alex might be an insane mix machine once he gets a knockdown.
If you’re interested in Alex I implore you to watch the guide yourself in full. Alex looks like he’ll be one of the more complex characters on the roster, and people seem to be pretty excited to play him. If you count yourself among that number check it out and get ready for both Alex and the big Street Fighter 6 balance patch coming March 17th!
