It’s finally here. Akuma, Master of the Fist, has arrived in Street Fighter 6 and has brought Season 2 with him. Players of Street Fighter 6 around the world are breathing a sigh of relief as Season 1 finally comes to a close after a long year, and a new Patch has come in alongside the new character.
With Season 2 you get a bevy of changes to the game from a balance perspective, the full changelog of which you can find on the Buckler site here. The long and short of it is: wakeup Drive Reversals are now a thing, Ryu got mad buffs, Jamie did too, and Deejay and Luke got nerfed so all in all everyone’s pretty happy, at least for now.
Alongside the gameplay changes and Akuma himself, there are a couple of fun additions to the game outside of what’s relevant to Ranked. Namely, the giant Akuma raid boss in the Battle Hub where players can attempt to take on a souped-up CPU level 8 SiRN Akuma clone with the goal of downing the boss for rewards, it’s slightly reminiscent of how the Ur-Dragon from Capcom’s other smash hit Dragon’s Dogma worked.
There’s also the highly requested Jukebox feature. Featuring a mass of Street Fighter OSTs from Street Fighter’s massive history (as well as some songs original to this game such as some of the banger World Tour themes and the… Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles collab theme). You can now set custom tracks for every character, each character having a shuffled playlist of up to 30 songs that can play whenever you play as or against them so now you can finally set Rashid’s highly memeable Street Fighter 5 theme to him… or to the entire cast if you really want to.
All in all, Street Fighter 6 has seen some major changes. Whether or not these changes are worth the once-a-year patch has yet to be seen, but it’s definitely a nice shakeup from Season 1 and hopefully Capcom have their ear to the ground regarding future changes as well.
