Agent 64: Spies Never Die, a Homage to Classic Spy Games, Launching August 11

When it comes to underrated game genres, the spy genre is one of the biggest standouts. The genre itself has lain dormant for so long that many probably forgot it’s a game genre, but in recent years we saw the return of James Bond 007, which sold well and was overall well received. Even though the triple-A scene may be lacking in spy games, you can always count on indie games to pick up the slack, and now we have finally received the official release date announcement for Agent 64: Spies Never Die, homage to classic spy games like Golden Eye and Perfect DarkSo if you’re a fan of those two, best to check out Agent 64, as it’s set to release on August 11th and currently has a demo you can try if you’re interested.

So what exactly is Agent 64: Spies Never Die? Well, if you’re a fan of classic Nintendo 64 shooters, especially Perfect Dark and GoldenEye 007, this game is right up your alley. The game was originally released in 2021 as a prototype, and now, 5 years later, it’s almost here. The game is developed by Replicant D6, and the story has you play as secret agent John Walter, trying to save the world by defeating his nemesis, Dominic Pulp. The game is a first-person action game with a 14-mission campaign story that can be enjoyed solo or with 2 players, either online or split-screen, and 4 players online. On top of the campaign, the game will feature multiplayer online, 4-player local split-screen, and 8-player online multiplayer. If you don’t have enough players, you can add bots to your match; the available game modes are briefcase, deathmatch, zone, and challenges. Agent 64: Spies Never Die is releasing August 11th on Steam.

Spy games have been absent from mainstream gaming for a while, and it’s a shame, as they’re charming and offer a different form of storytelling. And it’s nice to see them make a comeback. Now, this new indie game pays homage to the old classics many are nostalgic for, and it looks familiar yet wholly unique in its own way. So if you’re a fan of spy games or are interested in them, check out Agent 64: Spies Never Die. It’s an indie-produced game that seeks to fill a hole many have had for years when it comes to this genre. Agent 64: Spies Never Die is releasing on August 11th on Steam, so go check it out and decide if it’s for you.

Jorge Peredo: Growing up, I've always been fascinated by storytelling, whether through reading, watching, or playing video games. Having been exposed to storytelling for so long, I have been influenced, and through that influence, I seek to write and create my own stories that others can enjoy and that I can be proud of.
