One of the most critically acclaimed RTS titles in recent memory is finally making its way to the home console market. Microsoft has announced that Age of Empires II Definitive Edition will be coming to the Xbox Series X/Series S next year on January 31, 2023. The title will also be coming to PC, and will of course be available through the company’s Xbox Game Pass subscription service. In addition, the company also revealed that another entry, Age of Empires IV, will be coming to the Xbox Series X/Series S sometime in 2023 as well.

While the image above shows both of the current Xbox consoles, the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, the company has not made it clear if any of the entries would be making their way to the previous generation with the Xbox One. Most titles that have been brought to any of Microsoft’s home console market have been, in some way or another, ported to the Xbox One. This is one of the few instances where it was more or less omitted from the hardware list. As for the idea of playing an RTS on a home console with a controller, the Xbox systems will be able to utilize a keyboard and a mouse if you prefer the original way of enjoying the title.
On top of all that, both Age of Empires 2 and Age of Empires 4 will support cross-play, allowing Xbox users to play alongside the PC community. It’s an excellent chance to play two of the best RTS title in one of the most storied RTS franchises of all time on the Xbox home market. Age of Empires II Definitive Edition will release for the Xbox Series X/Xbox Series S on January 31, 2023. Age of Empires IV will come at a later time that same year.
