After 6 Years, Cube World is Finally Coming Out on Steam

Nearly 6 years ago, developer Wolfram von Funck had been working on a personal project known as Cube World. It was designed as a 3D voxel action-RPG game that could be played both multiplayer and solo, depending on what the player felt like. It’s simplistic style and overall enjoyment won fans over. Then, in 2013, von Funck had released the alpha of the game, and those who wanted to be in on the fun paid $15 USD to play the game. However, after a rocky start with the alpha and some DDoS’ing situations, players began to get weary on the games advancement. Mostly because after a single update, von Funck had gone radio-silent about the game.

Other than a few videos and developer updates, which seemed to be roughly once month during its first couple years of launch, there hadn’t been much outside of where Cube World was headed. And soon enough, the social media posts and communications on the direction of the game were down to one every other year, if that. It seemed the Cube World was going to disappear off the face of the planet soon enough. But then, recently, von Funck began to post new videos, including a 16-minute long gameplay of one of the four playable classes. And earlier today, von Funck revealed what long time fans have been waiting for: a confirmation.

The tweet confirms two things: that Cube World will officially be launched on Steam, and that launch window will be sometime within the October and November timeframe of this year. The Steam listing has also shown up, showing that while those specific months aren’t written in stone, the release time should be soon.

In Cube World, players can take on the role of four different classes; mage, ranger, warrior, and rogue. The game is designed around exploration, as it’s procedurally generated for each playthrough to be different and have new adventures. Adventures including quests given by villagers, fighting giant monsters, exploring ancient dungeons, taming pets, finding mounts and much, much more.

The game seems to be being pitched as a full release, and not a beta or early access. Von Funck has confirmed that anyone who had purchased the game back in 2013 before the radio-silence, will be given a steam key. Hopefully this will allow players who had gone through and enjoyed the beta will be able to enjoy once more, now will a full game and the likes.

So after 6 years of waiting, Cube World will be launching on Steam sometime in fall of 2019 on Steam.
