Adventure-Strategy Game, Gord, To Come Out Next Year

For fans of Slavic Folklore, there is an exciting new game on the horizon called Gord which is coming to the PC sometime next year. Gord is described as an adventure strategy game set in a dark fantasy setting. Some might describe it as a mash-up of the Witcher series and Frostpunk, which follows as an ex-Witcher developer is headlining this title. This is the first game coming from the newly formed Polish Studio, Covenant, and was announced earlier today on Steam.

In Gord, players will have to develop their settlement, venture out on dangerous quests, and discover mythical creatures. If players have played other titles like Frostpunk and Don’t Starve, Gord’s mechanics and gameplay will feel familiar. There are two main gameplay aspects in this title: city-building and survival.

Players will have to strategically erect buildings and housing in order to ensure the survival of their settlement. There will be a multitude of threats including other tribes, monsters, and “mysterious powers that lurk in the surrounding woods” that threaten their survival. Players will also have to keep an eye on their citizens’ health to avoid them having a breakdown and leaving the settlement.

There is also an AI-driven quest system that will encourage players to venture out into the surrounding woods to take on a variety of quests from hunting down legendary creatures to uncovering secrets of the world; In addition to the main gameplay missions which will drive the story forward. Throughout the woods, there are pieces of a book called ‘The Chronicle’ spread for players to discover to learn about Gods.  There is also a lot of flexibility in setting up the game and the procedural generation in order to make for casual or intense gameplay.

While Gord will most likely not come out for another year, the title is currently available to Wishlist on Steam.
