Action MMO ‘Boundless’ is Leaving Early Access in September

Developer Wonderstruck has announced that its Voxel-based MMORPG, Boundless, is almost ready to leave early access and get its full release. The game has been in Steam’s Early Access since 2014, and it was originally called Oort Online. Its name changed to Boundless in 2015, around the same time Wonderstruck also announced a version for the PS4. Now, Boundless‘ release date is confirmed as September 11, 2018.

Boundless is essentially an interplanetary sandbox, and draws a few comparisons to Minecraft. “Everything in the universe of Boundless, other than the natural environment, is built and run by players,” Wonderstruck wrote. “There’s a whole universe out there, with settlements to be built, trades to be made, and creatures to hunt. Everybody’s free to pursue whatever they like, so start exploring and play the game your way.”

Players will be able to move between worlds by portal, and play the game solo or collaboratively. “The game is voxel-based, with loads of different materials to discover. Starting with a lonely campfire, you could end up the Viceroy of an entire planet, with legions of followers,” Wonderstruck added.

Building isn’t the game’s only offering, and if you need to shake things up from city planning, players can always go face down a few waves of enemies. These meteorite hunts “give a chance for the best hunters in Boundless to show off what they can do,” according to Wonderstruck. “When a meteorite is forecast to hit, it’ll bring waves of enemies with it. These will scale up and multiply according to the number of players in the area, and the ensuing battles provide plenty of spoils.”

Boundless releases in full on September 11 for PC, Mac, and PS4. Wonderstruck will also continue working on the game, and promises that “new creatures, weapons, and materials” will come in regular updates after its launch.

In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
