A brand new announcement trailer has been released for the 2D Metroidvania action adventure game Bolt & Wahlington. Gematsu reports that its publisher OKJOY and developer Team Orca have announced the title for PC though that a firm release was not set. A beta test is scheduled for this June.
Bolt & Wahlington takes place in a hand-drawn world, floating within the ruins of a colossal mobile fortress known as Whalington. Players will assume the role of Bolt, a siamese cat who is also the pilot of a customizable mech set on uncovering the truth behind the mysterious fortress Wahlington.
In Bolt & Wahlington bolt can transform into a mouse to travel through tight spaces. Health Points can be transformed into keys to unlock locations. Your mech can transform into a tank and transform environmental objects into weapons. Players can parkour across walls, bounce off surfaces, and locate hidden rooms and shortcuts. Players can alternate between the mech form to collect resources like food or slip into tight space as a feline; As a feline you can climb, leap, and glide. Mech blueprints can be obtained across the map and crafted into gear. Bolt & Wahlington consist of an interwoven map. In the press release shared on Gematsu developer Team Orca promises a narrative breaking experience “META elements are woven throughout the game — the deeper you go, the more surreal truths you’ll uncover.”
Developer Team Orca aims to create an indie metroidvania with grand scale ambitions, with freedom such as altering the environment and your character. It’s no surprise when one of the game’s main devices lets you “rewrite the rules of the world”. All of this has been packaged nicely with the team’s hand drawn style and interwoven world. It will be interesting to see if Bolt & Wahlington will live up to its scope this June.
