By all accounts, multiple reports have suggested that a new PlayStation Showcase will be coming in the next few months. The main focus of the showcase is set to be the next phase of PlayStation Studios titles. However, that might not be everything. A new report has revealed that Sony has a new PlayStation handheld that is in development.
Insider Gaming is reporting that the handheld, codenamed the Q Lite will follow other Sony hardware like PSVR 2 and will require PlayStation in order to work, in this case, the PlayStation 5. Insider Gaming also notes that the Q Lite is not a cloud-streaming device like the Logitech G Cloud gaming handheld and ASUS’ recently announced ROG Ally. The Q Lite will use PlayStation’s Remote Play feature with the PlayStation 5.
With Remote Play, the Q Lite will adaptively stream gameplay up to 1080p/60 fps. Early prototypes have the Q Lite looking a lot like the DualSense, the PlayStation 5 controller, with a massive 8-inch LCD touchscreen in the center. Like the DualSense, the Q Lite will have adaptive triggers for haptic feedback and will have volume buttons, speakers, an audio input jack, etc.
Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grub has reported that the next PlayStation Showcase will be all about the “second phase of the PS5.” He has also heard rumblings of a new device.
Insider Gaming believes that the upcoming Showcase will not only be about software, but hardware too. There have been reports of a new PlayStation 5 console with a detachable disk drive and reports of new wireless earbuds and headset.
According to Insider Gaming, the Q Lite is in its QA phase and will be released before the rumored PlayStation 5 Pro and after the detachable disc drive PS5. The PlayStation 5 Pro is aiming for a Holiday 2024 release.
