At the recent Square Enix Presents Spring 2021 live stream, there were a lot of updates and upcoming game news that we learned about. One of which is the announcement of the upcoming Life is Strange title, Life is Strange: True Colors, as well as the Remastered Collection, both of which are expected to be coming out later this year.
Life is Strange: True Colors will be the next entry in the main Life is Strange series. Players will play as a brand-new young adult protagonist, Alex Chen, in a brand-new location with a new cast of characters. Alex is an Asian American woman that has supernatural powers of empathy, which means she can understand the emotions other characters are feeling, and if they are strong enough, she can have a similar reaction that mirrors their emotions.
The story starts with players moving towns to reunite with her brother, Gabe. However, this reunion soon turns tragic after her brother dies and it is up to Alex to find out the truth behind what happened.
During the presentation, it was also revealed that pop artist mxmtoon will be the singing voice of Alex Chen. Today, she released a cover of Radiohead’s “Creep” which she recorded for the game’s soundtrack. There will also be new tracks by Novo Amor, and licensed songs including Radiohead, Phoebe Bridgers, Gabrielle Aplin, and much more.
This upcoming title is coming from the same developers as Life is Strange: Before the Storm, Deck Nine. That is not the only Life is Strange update we received from Square Enix Presents today. They have also announced that there will be a Remastered Collection releasing soon. The Life is Strange Remastered Collection includes the Life is Strange and Life is Strange: Before the Storm and will have updated visuals and animations.
Jeff Litchford, Vice President at Deck Nine Games said, “it has been such an honor to return to the vibrant, emotive, and impactful world of Life is Strange. We are delighted to share this new story with you: a story of empathy, human connection, and the struggle to find a place to call home. All of the advancements in storytelling, development technology, and premium voice acting that we have made since Life is Strange: Before the Storm will allow players to be more immersed in the compelling world of Life is Strange: True Colors than ever before.”
Life is Strange: True Colors will release on September 10 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. However, unlike its predecessors in the Life is Strange series, all chapters will be available at launch which will give players the choice if they want to play it in one sitting or take breaks between chapters. The Remastered Collection will be a part of the Ultimate Edition of Life is Strange: True Colors, but will also be released as a stand-alone edition as well.
