A New Drop for Magic: The Gathering, Secret Lair x Global Fund for Women: Their Magic Is Limitless, Has Been Announced

One of the most well-known aspects of the Magic: The Gathering card game is the large number of partnerships that add new cards to the game. While many of these agreements and drops just add new characters and locations, others, such as the upcoming drop inspired and in support of the Global Fund for Women, seek to use the passion that many players have for the game to involve them in positive change. These new artworks, titled Secret Lair x Global Fund for Women: Their Magic Is Limitless, were made to encompass the vastness of womanhood, according to the official website. The team of designers was chosen in order to create a social environment and allow for a mentorship role between members working on each individual card. There are seven new artworks in total, each focused on a different aspect.

The first new artwork for the card Lathril, Blade of the Elves, prominently features motherhood as Lathril is shown teaching her daughter.

The next card is Dark Ritual, with the queen Liliana using her magic and emphasizing the value of ambition.

The artwork for Cultivate is meant to showcase the power of community, with an elderly Ixalan woman growing vegetables to help her people.

Coat of Arms has the leader of a Tarkir clan, Felothar, on the cover, brandishing her weapon. Her stance is meant to evoke strength and inspire those around her.

Sol Ring had artwork inspired by women in STEM, and shows two inventive characters, Saheeli and Breya, combining their expertise in magic, which serves a field of study similar to STEM in the world of Magic: The Gathering.

Path of Ancestry showcases a different aspect of motherhood with Queen Lindan celebrating her family with her adoptive child, Rowan.

Finale of Devastation focuses in on darker emotions, such as rage and sadness, in addition to the power that those with these emotions wield. Vivien Reid and Selvala are featured on the artwork taking revenge on the latter’s enemies.

The new cards will be available from July 20th to August 3rd, with half of the product price going to the Global Fund for Women.
