The detailed and expressive art direction of Square Enix’s Octopath Traveler series has been praised by many fans of the series, with each newest installment also incorporating various upgrades. That same art style has now been reapplied by the same team in an entirely new genre with Adventures of Elliot: The Millenium Tales. The upcoming action-adventure game has been receiving community feedback for a year since the last demo came out, and the team has now released the culmination of their improvements with a new prologue demo.
The introduce the new demo, Square Enix put out a gameplay trailer featuring impactful moments from the main story. According to the official website, Adventures of Elliot: The Millenium Tales take place across multiple eras as players explore the rich history of the world, gaining access to new abilities to fight the more difficult enemies. The trailer includes many of these abilities in a rapid display of combat encounters. Elliot will be able to use sweeping and stabbing strikes at melee range along with rapid-fire projectiles at a distance. He is also shown using explosives, dashes, and a special sword attack that hits enemies in another room.
The second half of the trailer focuses on showing off the different regions that Elliot will travel to over the course of the game. These include prehistory, a magically rich nation, a chaotic area filled with beasts, and a peaceful land with a princess. All of this culminates in a cinematic battle with a dragon while on the back of a phoenix. These final moments show off some of the differences that the action-adventure genre brings to the 2D art style used previously by the team.
The new demo is available now and will allow players to play through the prologue of the game. Adventures of Elliot: The Millenium Tales is set to release on June 18th, 2026.
