A First-Person Mandalorian Game is Reportedly in the Works at Respawn

A new first-person Star Wars game based around a Mandalorian bounty hunter is reportedly being developed by Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

According to a report by Insider Gaming, the game will be set during the reign of the Galactic Empire between Revenge of the Sith and Return of the Jedi. Players will enter the role of a Mandalorian bounty hunter and capture or kill bounties for rewards. It is not clear whether the bounty hunter is an established character or an original take on the archetype.

This report was corroborated by VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb on Twitter, who confirmed that it would not be based on the Disney+ series The Mandalorian.

Players will be given a wide variety of tools commonly used by Mandalorians in Star Wars media, including the jetpack, wrist rocket, grapple hook, and a visor to tag enemies and track bounties. The jetpack allows players to perform horizontal dashes, vertical jumps, and boost sliding.

The game was described as being “very fast-paced,” and rewards players who use their toolset to quickly rack up kills. It will not be an open-world game, and will instead have linear levels set on a variety of planets. It is unknown whether or not it will have multiplayer elements.

The original VentureBeat report said that the game was likely to release in 2024 or 2025, but the new details from Insider Gaming state that the game is still in its early stages of development, and will not release for another year or two at the very least.

With a third game in Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi series in the works and Ubisoft’s open world Star Wars: Outlaws potentially releasing this year, single-player Star Wars experiences will not be going away anytime soon.

Update: Jeff Grubb, the author of the VentureBeat article, has stated that Mohammad Alavi was not working on the Mandalorian game, but Titanfall Legends.

Alex Andahazy: I have been playing games since my childhood, and am constantly looking to expand my horizons. I have always been a Nintendo fan at heart, but in recent years I've moved to a much wider variety of genres and platforms.
