Developer Luckshot Games have released a new announcement trailer for their 3D action adventure game Big Hops. The title is slated for release on PC, with Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One to follow. Gematsu reports that a demo is available and that the title has an active Kickstarter Campaign.
In Big Hops players will assume the role of Hop, a young frog who has been kidnapped by a spirit named Diss. Your goal is to return home to your family with the assistance of an Old Racoon and airship.
In a press release on Gematsu, Luckshot Games developer Chris Wade shares that “I started Big Hops in 2019 (6 years ago!!!) with a single goal of modernizing the 3D platformer genre. The design trend at the time of giving players real freedom and creativity in games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Spelunky, and Rimworld was so inspiring. Selfishly and jealously, I wanted to see emergent gameplay in my favorite genre.”
Big Hops features different traversal options; you can roll, dive, crouch jump, wall run, free climb, swim, belly slide, walk tightropes, pole swing, grind rails, and ride minecarts. Players can also use their tongue to grab items, hookshot on walls, and tongue-swing; Hop’s tongue can also interact with doors, switches, corks, plungers, flowers, flingers, levers, and allow you to lock-pick. Big Hops contains environmental features in ‘Veggies’, allowing players to use bounce pads, grow vines, create temporary platforms, create hookshot points, place tongue swinging points, and launch tightropes.
Luckshot Games aims to build upon classic titles to create a modern 3D action adventure platformer. With an expansive moveset and environmental features, such as the ‘Veggies’ Bigs Hops may be able to bring something new to the table.
