The video game publisher 2K has officially secured the license to create games with Lego. In line with the games 2K has already released, the publisher will be creating multiple Lego sports games throughout the next few years.
The first game that the companies will release will be a Lego game that is centered around soccer/football. The upcoming game is expected to be developed by Sumo Digital and will likely be released later this year. A release in 2022 would coincide with the FIFAWorld Cup. Following the soccer game, there will be the release of an open-world Lego racing game. The game has already begun development at Visual Concepts, the same developer used for both the NBA 2K and WWE 2K series. The game was specifically listed as “an open-world driving game with a major license” and is expected to release sometime in 2023. Finally, there will be another sports game developed based on a major sports franchise. Although the third game does not have a specific date, the three games are likely to draw in a lot of fans.
2K is hoping that these games will attract a younger generation as they look to expand the amount of games they have. Lego is currently one of the most well-known brands among the younger generation and 2K believes that it will be a great fit. One source told Video Game Chronicle that the games could include guest characters from other Lego partnerships. Some of the most notable brands that Lego works with include Marvel, DC, and the Harry Potter series.
The partnership between the two companies seems to be an ideal fit as both look to expand their overall game outputs. The next two years are sure to bring some exciting news from the companies as they continue to develop and release new games.
